Bottles hurled after man stabbed

Police called to deal with a stabbing in the centre of Wakefield were confronted with a crowd of up to 60 people in the early hours of Saturday.

Officers were called to the attack on King Street at 0330 BST, but bottles were thrown at them as they tried to reach the victim.

Several clubs in the area were closed and a 24-year-old local man was found with critical injuries.

A 20-year-old man is being questioned about the stabbing.
